This year, our Best of VR Awards will highlight our picks for the best hardware and software of the calendar year across multiple categories, with one winner and a few honorable mentions for each. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-embed-card\">\n<div class=\"post-video\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"UploadVR&#039;s Best of VR Awards 2023  - Live From VR\" width=\"1165\" height=\"655\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xtiGh7IgWfo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Our nominations and winners recognize works released broadly, in full release \u2013 this means that we may exclude hardware and software that\u2019s only available in limited or early release from consideration. That said, we have also added a new category recognizing Early Access titles specifically.<\/p>\n<p>Here are UploadVR&#8217;s picks for Best of VR 2023. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"best-updated-vr-game\">Best Updated VR Game<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s common for VR games to continue offering new content to their audiences in the months (or years) after launch, whether it be via paid DLC or through free updates. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/walkabout-mini-golf-review\/\">Walkabout Mini Golf<\/a> continues to release exciting new courses, such as its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/walkabout-mini-golf-2\/\">Journey to the Center of the Earth<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/walkabout-mini-golf-laser-lair-course-dlc\/\">Laser Lair<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/alfheim-elves-walkabout-course\/\">Alfheim: Land of the Elves<\/a> courses. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/puzzling-places-oculus-quest-review\/\">Puzzling Places<\/a> continued to receive new updates, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/puzzling-places-quest-3-update\/\">multiplayer and MR support on Quest<\/a> \u2013 the latter of which is our new favorite way to play. Among Us VR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/among-us-vr-pico\/\">arrived on new platforms<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/among-us-vr-polus-map\/\">received a new Polus map<\/a>, while Breachers added consistent new content such as its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/breachers-party-queue-update\/\">party system<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/breachers-ship-map-update\/\">new maps<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/breachers-control-point-mode-update\/\">Control Point mode<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Updated-Game.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>However, the Best Updated VR Game of 2023 has to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/pistol-whip-2023-review-straight\/\">Pistol Whip<\/a>. In our mid-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/pistol-whip-2023-review-straight\/\">2023 review of the game<\/a>, we said it was better than ever and at the end of the year, that sentiment still rings true. Cloudhead games continue to add new features and content to Pistol Whip years after launch, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/pistol-whip-overdrive-season\/\"\/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/pistol-whip-overdrive-season\/\">Overdrive season<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/pistol-whip-elixir-of-madness\/\">Elixir of Madness<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/pistol-whip-official-modding-tool-release-date\/\">Pistol Mix modding tool<\/a>. The updates don&#8217;t look set to stop either \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/pistol-whip-early-2024-roadmap\/\">game&#8217;s roadmap<\/a> indicates a brand new collection of scenes is on the way in 2024. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"best-new-vrar-hardware\">Best New VR\/AR Hardware<\/h2>\n<p>This year included a few notable VR\/AR hardware releases. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/vive-xr-elite-hands-on\/\">XR Elite<\/a> saw Vive try to reclaim some of the consumer market with its modular mixed reality headset, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/bigscreen-beyond-hardware-review\/\">Bigscreen Beyond<\/a> offered exceptional PC VR comfort with significant trade-offs. Sony brought next-generation VR gaming to PS5 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/playstation-vr2-review\/\">PSVR 2<\/a>, offering  a major step in console VR with high-end features in a package that&#8217;s easier to manage than PC VR.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Best-Hardware.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>However, it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/quest-3-review\/\">Quest 3<\/a> that is our pick for Best New VR\/AR Hardware this year. Though the mixed reality is really just passable, it&#8217;s everything else about the headset that pushes it over the line. There&#8217;s huge improvements to comfort with better weight distribution, while the new pancake lenses offer improved visuals in a far slimmer form factor. Internally, it&#8217;s also far more powerful with more than double the GPU performance than previous standalone headsets. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"best-vr-developer\">Best VR Developer<\/h2>\n<p>Resolution Games continue to impress with Racket Club and Demeo Battles, meanwhile Cloudhead Games continues to put out free updates for Pistol Whip while working on new projects. Capcom also had a strong year with two full VR Modes for Resident Evil games. Mighty Coconut continues to expand Walkabout Mini Golf with new courses.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Developer.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>However, Best VR Developer has to go to solo developer Zach Tsiakalis-Brown, who almost single-handedly created PC VR masterpiece Vertigo 2. In a world dominated by studios of varying sizes, it is astounding that Zach Tsiakalis-Brown was able to create such a masterpiece of a game by himself. Here is our full review.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"kg-bookmark-thumbnail\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Wallpaper_04.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"most-anticipated-vr-game-of-2024\">Most Anticipated VR Game of 2024<\/h2>\n<p>There&#8217;s lots to look forward to in 2024 \u2013 Skydance&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/skydance-behemoth-vr-announcement\/\">Behemoth<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/big-shots-announcement-hands-on\/\">Big Shots<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/border-bots-vr-preview\/\">Border Bots<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/silent-slayer-vault-of-the-vampire-vr-announcement\/\">Silent Slayer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/wanderer-the-fragments-of-fate-remake-announcement\/\">Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/final-fury-open-beta\/\">Final Fury<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/brazen-blaze-announcement\/\">Brazen Blaze<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/glassbreakers-release-date-impressions\/\">Glassbreakers<\/a>, to name a few.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/most-anticipated.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>However, our most anticipated game has to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/underdogs-vr-preview\/\">Underdogs<\/a>. In our hands-on preview, we spoke about its refreshing take on futuristic mech brawler combat, including a physics-based system that rewards wider swings with increased damage. We can&#8217;t wait to dig into Underdogs more when it arrives in early 2024. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-bookmark-card\"><a class=\"kg-bookmark-container\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/underdogs-vr-preview\/\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"kg-bookmark-content\">\n<p>Hands-On: UNDERDOGS Shows Promising Gritty Mech Combat<\/p>\n<p>UNDERDOGS promises a refreshing take on physics-based mech combat. Our full preview:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"kg-bookmark-thumbnail\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/ss_da3a282bf0fefce82354cb6e1433d63daef164c3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"favorite-early-access-vr-game\">Favorite Early Access VR Game<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/ghosts-of-tabor-quest-revenue\/\">Ghosts of Tabor<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/track-craft-impressions\/\">Track Craft<\/a> both caught our attention as Early Access titles this year, but there was one other game that really caught our attention. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/EARLY-ACCESS.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/glassbreakers-release-date-impressions\/\">Glassbreakers<\/a> stole our heart this year at Gamescom, presenting a fantastic multiplayer experience designed around engaging interactions, a MOBA-like competitive experience and engaging menu system built around physical interactions. We can&#8217;t wait to play more Glassbreakers when it goes into full release next year. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"favorite-mixed-reality-experience\">Favorite Mixed Reality Experience<\/h2>\n<p>With the advent of Quest 3, there were loads of new mixed reality experiences available this year. We loved checking out MR support for games like Vermillion, Synth Rides, Pianovision, The Light Brigade and Drop Dead: The Cabin.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/MIXED-REALITY.jpg\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>But it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/demeo-review\/\">Demeo<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/demeo-battles-review\/\">Demeo Battles<\/a> that is our favorite to play in mixed reality. Yes, we know \u2013 they are technically two separate titles. However, their implementation of mixed reality is identical and so it comes down to which type of Demeo experience you want to play. Whether you&#8217;re keen on co-op dungeon crawling with friends or competitive PvP action, both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/demeo-review\/\">Demeo<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/demeo-battles-review\/\">Demeo Battles<\/a> are best enjoyed in mixed reality. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"favorite-new-psvr-2-game\">Favorite New PSVR 2 Game<\/h2>\n<p>PSVR 2&#8217;s launch year came with some engaging new titles. There were two fantastic Resident Evil VR Modes \u2013 for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/resident-evil-8-village-psvr-2-review\/\">Resident Evil Village<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/resident-evil-4-remake-vr-review\/\">Resident Evil 4 Remake<\/a> \u2013 as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/synapse-review-psvr-2\/\">Synapse<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/before-your-eyes-vr-review-psvr-2\/\">Before Your Eyes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/c-smash-vrs-review\/\">C-Smash VRS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/gran-turismo-7-psvr2-review\/\">Gran Turismo 7<\/a>. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/PSVR-2.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>But our favorite had to be the headset&#8217;s flagship title, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/horizon-call-of-the-mountain-review\/\">Horizon: Call of the Mountain<\/a>. It was a brilliant way to kick off the PSVR 2 lifecycle and presents a brand new experience that is both unique to VR and faithful to the Horizon franchise. Though not necessarily revelatory, it&#8217;s nonetheless an essential game for PSVR 2 owners \u2013 and our favorite of the year. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-bookmark-card\"><a class=\"kg-bookmark-container\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/horizon-call-of-the-mountain-review\/\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"kg-bookmark-content\">\n<p>Horizon Call of the Mountain Review: A Stunning Showcase For PSVR 2<\/p>\n<p>Horizon Call of the Mountain headlines a strong start for PlayStation VR2, showcasing the headset\u2019s new features through an engaging action-adventure. Here\u2019s our full review. Launch games are critical for any new platform. First impressions only happen once and while PlayStation VR2 boasts impressive specs, few things get<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"kg-bookmark-thumbnail\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/1729376355_684_Horizon-Call-of-the-Mountain-key-art.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"favorite-new-pc-vr-game\">Favorite New PC VR Game<\/h2>\n<p>More so than ever in 2023, this award is on its last legs. Despite the decreasing number of new PC VR releases, we remained impressed with the few we tried this year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/f1-23-vr-review\/\">F1 23<\/a> offered welcome improvements over its predecessor on PC VR, but still fell a little short of becoming the definitive VR racing game. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/pc-vr.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>But for our favorite PC VR game of the year, what else could it go to besides Vertigo 2? This game is a stunning achievement \u2013 a homage to Valve classics and yet a complete creative force of its own as well. It&#8217;s a incredibly well-polished campaign \u2013 and created entirely by one sole developer, too. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"favorite-new-quest-game\">Favorite New Quest Game<\/h2>\n<p>There was plenty of new content for Quest owners this year, with an abundance of choice across multiple genres. Between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/asgards-wrath-2-review\/\">Asgard&#8217;s Wrath 2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/arizona-sunshine-2-review\/\">Arizona Sunshine 2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/dungeons-of-eternity-review\/\">Dungeons of Eternity<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/eye-of-the-temple-review\/\">Eye of the Temple<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/vampire-the-masquerade-justice-review\/\">Vampire: The Masquerade &#8211; Justice<\/a>, there was something for everyone. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/QUEST.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>However, our favorite new Quest game of the year goes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/assassins-creed-nexus-vr-review\/\">Assassin&#8217;s Creed Nexus VR<\/a>.  There were doubts as to whether Ubisoft could pull of bringing such an iconic franchise over to VR, but Nexus manages to stand proud with main series and present players with a 20-hour campaign that leaves you wanting more. It demonstrates what a fully-fledged VR entry can do for a big franchise, adapting gameplay from the main series into something unique and engaging on Quest headsets.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-bookmark-card\"><a class=\"kg-bookmark-container\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/assassins-creed-nexus-vr-review\/\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"kg-bookmark-content\">\n<p>Review: Assassin\u2019s Creed Nexus VR Stands Proud With The Main Series<\/p>\n<p>Assassin\u2019s Creed Nexus VR proudly stands alongside the main series. With games like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/horizon-call-of-the-mountain-review\/\">Horizon: Call of the Mountain<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/dungeons-of-eternity-review\/\">Dungeons of Eternity<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/assassins-creed-nexus-vr-review\/\">Assassin&#8217;s Creed Nexus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/synapse-review-psvr-2\/\">Synapse<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/breachers-review\/\">Breachers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/arizona-sunshine-2-review\/\">Arizona Sunshine 2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/resident-evil-4-remake-vr-review\/\">Resident Evil 4 Remake VR Mode<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/asgards-wrath-2-review\/\">Asgard&#8217;s Wrath 2<\/a>, it was a tighter race than ever. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/seebeyond.shop\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/goty.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"  \/><\/figure>\n<p>However, our VR Game of the Year for 2023 is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/vertigo-2-review\/\">Vertigo 2<\/a>. There were a lot of brilliant VR campaigns this year, but Vertigo 2&#8217;s tops them all. Not only is this one of the most polished shooter campaigns available, it was created almost entirely by Zach Tsiakalis-Brown, a solo developer.
